1. Sizing & Geometry
Official U.S. Green Card photos must be exactly 2x2 inches (51x51mm). In digital dimensions, this equates to exactly 600x600 pixels up to 1200x1200px at a minimum resolution of 300 DPI. The head must occupy between 50% and 69% of the overall photo height from chin to top of hair.
2. Expression & Eyeglasses
Eyeglasses of any kind—prescription, reading, or sunglasses—are strictly forbidden in DV Lottery submissions. Wearing glasses triggers automatic disqualification. Additionally, you must maintain a neutral facial expression with both eyes open, looking directly into the lens.
3. Background & Shadows
The background must be plain white or off-white. It must be solid and free of textures, patterns, shadows, or secondary objects. The lighting should be balanced across the face to eliminate any shadow silhouettes on the nose, neck, ears, or background wall behind the head.
Why Over 30% of DV Entries are Disqualified
Each year, the U.S. Department of State receives millions of Diversity Visa entries. An estimated 30% to 35% of entries are rejected prior to the lottery draw due to non-compliant digital photos.
Because the initial check is automated by advanced face recognition servers, minor errors like a slightly off-white background, compression rates above 20:1, head sizes below 50%, or wearing spectacles lead to instant computer rejections. There is no manual override; if the file fails, your entry is eliminated before the draw even begins.
High-Risk Rejection Factors:
- Wearing glasses (100% disqualification rate)
- Non-square aspect ratio / incorrect pixel grid
- Heavy shadows on face or background wall
- File size exceeding 240KB threshold
How Our Secure AI Eligibility Checker Works
This validator utilizes your secure, self-hosted VPS backend to inspect uploaded files. By running advanced neural segmentation (U2NET) and computer vision frameworks, the tool measures pixels, maps facial coordinates, scans background brightness values, and searches for foreign items (like glasses). If your photo fails any biometric criteria, you can immediately utilize our free Green Card Photo Tool to auto-crop, center, and correct background color issues recursively.
To ensure total privacy, no files are stored permanently. The system processes the image in memory, checks compliance metrics, and automatically purges data immediately.
